Ideal for soldering the TC Bead to the PCB during reworking to obtain highly accurate temperatures. Taking accurate surface temperatures, is a very difficult proposition especially from a PCB. How does one ensure that the TC bead is in perfect thermal contact with the PCB? Sure, one can use thermal tape, aluminium tape, kapton tape etc. to name just a few. The problem is, once the temperature reaches above 150°C, then the adhesive may not hold the bead intimately on the surface.
It is possible to drill tiny holes on the PCB and insert the TC bead and apply thermal paste to further improve thermal energy transfer between the two bodies. Using high temperature solder to obtain highly accurate PCB temperatures during the reflow process, is an excellent alternative. As long as the TC bead can be soldered to a smd component near the target device, then it would provide the most accurate temperatures during the reflow process. It is even possible to find an smd component on the target device itself, that the TC bead could be soldered to for even greater accuracy of the actual process temperatures during the reflow process.
It is probably true to say that, the single most important skill in reworking is the ability to take accurate and dependable temperatures. With this method, it is possible to obtain the most reliable and accurate temperatures due to the almost perfect thermal energy transfer through conduction between the PCB and the TC bead. Our high melting point solder will stay solid well above the reflow temperatures used in reworking and thereby providing perfect thermal contact and thermal conduction between the measured surface and the TC bead.
The flux in the core of the solder wire is of the RA type (rosin activated), and helps in soldering a difficult material to the smd components or copper pads on the PCB. Our new range of TCs are pre-tinned to help solder the TC bead easily. Anyone who may have tried to solder a K-type TC bead to a PCB would know only too well, how difficult it is to solder K-type wire to a copper pad. Our pre-tinned thermocouples make it a lot simpler by making the bead more solderable to a copper pad or smd component.
